This is a video cut from "Trick of The Mind" series aired in the UK. The clip here is taken directly from Season 1 -- Episode 1.
This is one of my favorite segments done by Derren. It explains for the most part how he did achieve the feat, and the trick is quite clever. Don't get too hung up on the ending though; it's merely a trick.
I've got all of Derren's work on my computer, and if you're interested in somehow obtaining the information, email me at tranceriver@gmail.com and we'll talk.
Cheers
First half is from "Mind Control," S01E02. Second half is from "Trick of the Mind," S03E04.
You can be fooled no matter how smart you think you are. Don't think you can be fooled? Just watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voAntzB7EwE
Derren Brown gives readings via "astrology." From "Trick of the Mind," S03E01.
Astrology relies heavily on the Barnum and Forer effect, which are statements that can apply to anybody.

Of course, the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) will pay anyone $1,000,000 for a successful demonstration of paranormal phenomenon under proper observing conditions:

No astrolgers, or crackpots alike, have ever claimed the $1,000,000 prize. Suprise?
Derren Brown reproduces the Milgram experiment on the episode, "The Heist."
In this episode, Derren Brown subconciously influences middle management buisness men and women with no previous criminal record to pull an armed robbery without ever directly mentioning the idea to them.

I reply to a video where it seems Derren Brown hypnotizes a man into willfully giving up his belongings. I give an explanation for how this might have been done. Watch the referenced video first:

Notes on a few things:
- I noticed in the video I keep saying "pattern break" while "pattern interrupt" is the more common term.
- In asking the man directions he distracts him, but more specifically it causes the man to enter an altered state where he internally processes for an answer. Like with the handshake interrupt this puts the man out of his conscious mode and invokes a short trance state. Google "transderivational search" for more info.
- Giving the man the bottle is additionally a persuasion technique... I give you something first, then you give me something.

The main trick from Derren Brown: Trick or Treat (Episode 1): A man is hypnotised in a photo booth in London and wakes up in Marrakech, Morocco.
This video has been clipped slightly from the original footage in order to keep it under ten minutes.

Psychological magician Derren Brown recreates a psychological experiment[1] where a person is asking a test subject for directions when some guys carrying a large painting cuts between them. The asking person is then switched and the aim is to see if the test subject recognizes the switch. Surprisingly they rarely recognize that another person emerges from behind the painting. This works by first focusing the test subjects attention on the problem of finding the directions, not on Derren and how he looks, secondly the switch is performed outside of the view of the test subject. Now, the test subject (consciously and subconsciously) assumes that the same person will emerge behind the painting, and since not enough information has been stored in memory about Derrens looks, the test subjects mind subconsciously assumes and recreates a memory that it is the same person [2].

Derren Brown does an old seance trick. From "Trick of the Mind," S03E06.
You can be fooled no matter how smart you are, and just because you can't explain it, doesn't mean there isn't a natural explanation to it. Forturnatly for this particular trick, I (or rather, Derren) included the explanation at the end.
