Alex Salmond's interview with Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman on BBC2 just ahead of the May 2007 elections which saw Salmond elected First Minister of Scotland.
First Minister Alex Salmond appeared on BBC Scotland's Children in Need in the guise of famous comic misanthrope the Reverend I M Jolly.
The dour minister created by the late Rikki Fulton was a popular fixture in the Hogmanay TV schedules with his catchphrase "Ah've had a helluva year".
Mr Salmond said his evangelical crusades went down well in Glasgow East - slightly less well in Glenrothes.
He said: "I preached 'yes we can', the people replied, 'nah we didnae'."
Addressing the nation from his armchair, the first minister said: "Dearly beloved fellow Scots - and Gordon Brown.
"It is at times of great fiscal strain and hardship that we turn to the Bible for words of comfort and solace.
"Take Genesis: And God said 'Let there be sky - and those who can afford Sky can watch the best fitba'.
"And the Lord also said 'Let there be light' - but he changed his mind when the leccy bill came in."
Mr Salmond also poked fun at his predecessor as first minister, Jack McConnell.
The SNP leader said: "I'd also like to thank him for the present of fish he left for me in Bute House - under the floorboards.
"Moira and I had a great time to replacing all the light bulbs he'd taken with him."
The first minister concluded his message: "Please dig deep, it's for the weans."
Since the Scottish Elections, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have met or congratulated Ian Paisley, Martin McGuinness, Bertie Ahern, Nicolas Sarkozy, Colonel Gahdaffi, George Bush and Rhodri Morgan. Yet neither has the common decency to pick up the phone to Alex Salmond and talk to him about how best to deliver for Scotland.
If anyone still needed proof of the anti-democratic, arrogant nature of the Labour party, look no more.

Cathy Jamieson vs Alex Salmond. You decide.
Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland, speaks in the Rotunda Dome Room. Salmond's visit marks the 10th anniversary of a United States Senate resolution noting America's Declaration of Independence was inspired in part by the 14th-century Scottish Declaration of Arbroath. Salmond is touring the United States to promote Scotland Week, which starts March 30 and showcases Scotland's academic, business and cultural contributions to the world. He also plans stops in Boston, New York City and Washington.
Paxman sneers his way through interviewing Governor General Cairns and First Minister Salmond. Almost makes you feel sorry for the Labourite. But not quite.

Alex Salmond interviewed on Newsnight UK, preceded by some crap from Alan Cochrane and Iain Dale, plus a cornucopia of utter misunderstanding of Scottish politics by the EBC.
Note the lack of Ms Wark in tonight's program - surely not a reaction to this video:

Poor Kirsty!
Alex puts BBC's Gavin Essler (born in Edinburgh) in his place on the economic crisis. Broadcast on Newsnight 17 10 08.
Amazing the EBC actually gave Alex some air time. Pity it wasn't Kirsy, bloody, Wark.
Those who cannot argue against SNP policy often try to suggest that they are "anti-English". This is not true, and in this interview Alex Salmond again sticks up for the unfair treatment of English policies in Westminster. Labour MPs from Scotland often use their votes in Westminster to force though legislation which relates only to England. The SNP never vote on English matters.
Alex Salmond is declared winner of the Gordon constituency, gaining the seat from the FibDems.
His speech refers to the 'wind of change' sweeping through Scottish politics, and attacks the farce of electoral organisation on May 3rd.
Three very ill informed, patronising London commentators talk about Scottish independence. The first minister was in great form and totally wipes the floor with them.
