The Summer Sanitarium Tour was Metallica's packaged tour in the Summer of the year 2000. Taking place in "stadiums, arenas, and yes, even speedways," the tour was one of the top grossing tours of the Summer. It was also the final tour for long-time bassist Jason Newsted who quit the band in January 2001.

Cliff Burton versus Jason Newsted
Hey there guys..i made a video comparing the bass solos of the 2 former bassist of Metallica, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted. Cliff uses his fingers to play bass. As far as i know he hasn't used a pick. While Jason Newsted uses a pick to play. Both of them is good. But who's better?just leave a comment..
Cliff bass solo happened the night before he died. R.I.P
Clifford Lee Burton (February 10, 1962 -- September 27, 1986) was a bass guitarist, best known for his work with the heavy metal band Metallica from 1982-86.
Burton's early influence was essential in creating the unique musical style for which Metallica would later become famous. An angry, working-class sound, characterized by rhythm guitar riffs, energic lead guitar and fast driving drums, the band would be seen as innovators of heavy metal music through much of the late 80s and early 90s.
Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963, Battle Creek, Michigan) is an American bass guitarist currently a member of Voivod and Rock Star Supernova, but is best known as a former member of the band Metallica from 1986-2001. He currently resides in Walnut Creek, California.

It was the only 1990 USA show in Rochester New York, June 30, 1990 with Black Crowes opening for them, and Aerosmith headlining in the rain.
They just finished up the "And Justice for all" tour in 1989.
1990 came around and they had to do some shows...
I did this interview for Joe Mack's metal show on WCSB.89.3 in Cleveland.
Joe volunteered over ten years to metal radio back when no one cared...The Hetfield interview from the same night is coming soon...Please comment and I'll keep 'em coming...

Here is the video which compares Jason Newsted's and Rob Trujillo's bass skills durnig Orion played live.
I've put only the slow part of Orion cause there's no full Orion with Jason. And also it's easy to find bass sound on that part.
I hope you'll enjoy it.

My Jason Dudettes Myspace submission!
Despite the artistic license and minor flops, I'm pretty happy with it. I changed a couple of things from the original versions... picking a little differently and sometimes playing different notes, too. So when you hear the parts and it sounds wrong... it's because it's actually not note for note.
I used my Sadowsky Modern 5 JJ and small Ampeg practice amp along with a Mac Pro and iSight camera to record this video at my house.
Due to lack of compression, the volume levels go up and down at points, but you get the point!

A Tribute to Jason Newsted.
Jason Newsted was the person who got me into metallica and bass. Many people find it okay to compare him and cliff. Whatever happend, happend. I wish people could stop hating the guy. He was a great bass player. In my head he is equal to cliff. I owe a lot to cliff. If it wasnt for cliff I would never know Jason. If Cliff were still alive it still would have been good.
People like to criticize jason for playing with a pick. What's wrong with playing with a pick? The way Jason played with a pick was badass. Same thing for Cliff, the way way he played with his fingers was badass. I think that Jason solo's were better. Lots of people would argue with that.
For him quitting the band I think he did the right thing. I feel like metallica never really cared for him and still dont.
Jason would always go out there to jam. I think that if Cliff were still alive but somehow could not play with the band he probably would have been mad for what they did to jason. I can agree with having to get accepted but it never ended.
Robert Trujillo will never be half as good as Cliff or Jason. But Since I'm a fan of metallica I look foward to the album with rob. I still think they can make good music. They are getting old but they are still alive.
Any hateful coments to jason will be erased. Respect the man for the good he did.
