Al Jazeera has obtained footage of what is purported to be a video recording of attacks on Israeli troops in Gaza. Al Jazeera cannot independently verify the content of the footage.

It is, according to Israel, just the beginning. A wave of missile attacks on the Gaza Strip, which began on Saturday morning, bombarded security compounds belonging to Hamas, which controls the coastal territory. Clayton Swisher reports.

In two waves, over 100 fighter jets and attack helicopters dropped dozens of smart bombs and hundreds of tons of explosives on Hamas training camps, headquarters, weapons storehouses, underground missile silos and command-and-control centers scattered throughout the Gaza Strip. Well even as the death toll in Gaza rises, US support for Israel's actions has not waivered. Since the bombings began the US has backed Israel to do whatever it takes to keep Israeli civilian casualties to a minimum. Tom Ackerman has more from Washington.

Israeli jets are again bombing targets in the Gaza Strip. The air assualt is now into a third day. Warships have also been involved in the attacks, shelling the area around Gaza's port. The death toll in Gaza has risen to 318. A UN agency says at least 51 of those victims were civilians. Despite the onslaught, the Palestinian resistance continues. Rockets fired from Gaza have killed one person and injured seven in the city of Ashkelon. Roza Ibragimova reports.

Israel receives billions of dollars in military aid from the US each year, much of it spent on American weaponry which US law says must only be used in self-defence. Another senior commander of Hamas miltary wing has been killed in the Gaza strip as Israel's bombardment enters its second week. The Israeli military says it's carried out more than seven hundred strikes on the territory since the war began. The Palestinian death toll has climbed to 437. Mohamed Vall has the latest developments.

Israel has launched its bloodiest attack on the Gaza Strip in decades.

Mar 2008 Most of Hamas' weapons are smuggled in through tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. These tunnels are usually dug by children, who know they could be killed at any moment. Every night, 14 year old Said scrambles down a narrow shaft leading to a tunnel. He'll spend the next eight hours digging without a break. It's claustrophobic, difficult work. The heat in the tunnel is unbearable and the more they advance, the harder it becomes to breathe. At any moment, the tunnel could come crashing down, burying them alive. That's not the only danger. "Sometime the Egyptians shoot gas into the tunnel that might kill us", states Ramdan. "There are risks of electric shocks and the Israelis might bomb the entrance". Since Hamas seized control of Gaza, the borders have been closed. The tunnels are the only way to import goods into the territory. "They're a gold mine!" states Said. But to his disgust, most of the profits go to other people. "We do all the work, then they swindle us", he complains. Once the tunnel is nearly ready, "other people will open it, do the trafficking and make more money than us". The money he does make will enable Said to support his entire family. But everytime he goes into the tunnel, he knows: "You are digging your own grave".
